This is the sixth generation Porsche 911 turbo so what could possibly be different. Well first off it boasts a whopping 480bhp at 6000rpm and 502lb-ft of torque at 2000rpm.That's 58 horses and 87lb-ft more then the previous model...
Variable Geometry Turbos
Variable Geometry Turbos have been introduced. These come with movable vanes akin to jet engines which allow optimum performance at low revolutions. Turbo lag is virtually eliminated and peak torque, 502lb-ft can be reached at an unbelievable 2000 RPM for a 10 second period thanks to a special overboost mode. Normal peak torque is 457lb-ft. New Porsche Traction Management was also introduced and combined with an electronically controlled four wheel drive system to employ the torque distribution to balance the cars handling and maintain traction and stability. Under extreme track driving this car feels like a rear wheel drive racer. The Porsche 997 Turbo unfortunately was not released with the Porsche double clutch which is just finishing final tests and should be available later for this product line.0 to 62mph is claimbed at 3.9s

Around Nurburgring it is an unbelievable 10 seconds faster then the Porsche Carrera 997 s, putting it in the 7:50 range. Claimed top speed for the Porsche 997 Turbo is 193mph however the old Porsche 996 Turbo, with a claimed top speed of 189 could be pushed to 192. Expect a Porsche 997 Turbo S with 500bhp to follow in a few years, and of course the Porsche 911 GT2 which should boast power well above that!
