Sportec, Switzerland, increase engine capacity of a Porsche Boxster 987 from 3.2L to a whopping Porsche Boxster 3.8L Engine delivering 370hp, 420Nm of Power

Every one seems to have done it. Ruf, Gemballa, TechArt and now Sportec have merged the power of a 997 Carrera 3.8L 911 engine with the midengined, low center of gravity Porsche Boxster. Out comes the Sportec SP370.

Out of the Factory the Porsche Boxster S produces 280bhp and 236lb-ft. Any one who has driven one of these exquisite machines can testify to it's impeccable handling, most say much better then the 911, however the Boxster models have always been lacking in Power.

In step Sportec. The Swiss Porsche Tuner. Sportec a Porsche Tuner, are known for there specialized turbocharged Porsche performance cars so it seems like quite the oddity to see a Porsche Boxster in their factory. None the Less Sportec chief Ulrich Hodel has the right idea. Take a Porsche Carrera 997 3.8 engine, reprogram the ECU to run in a sport mode and you have an additional 15 horsepower over the Porsche Carreras 355bhp. The naturally aspirated Porsche modified 3.8 motor hits its peak 370 bhp at 6700rpm and 310lb-ft at 4700.

Sportec SP370 Porsche tuning program didn't end at the engine. They have allowed for some light cosmetic changes, like a carbon fiber rear wing-lip, impressive 10 spoke 19 x 8.5 and 19 x 10 inch Anthracite finished (light gray) wheels and a ride height that's 20mm lower then the stock Porsche Boxster S, with the Sportec springs designed to work with the PASM. Finishing the car off with 70mm Sportec exhaust tips. As a compliment to the wheels, part of the Sportec Porsche Boxster tuning program are the 355mm front disk brakes with six piston calipers.

The Tuned Sportec SP370 feels much faster and agile then any Boxster, Porsche 911 (997) and even the Cayman. Uphill it seems like it doesn't run out of power, and through the curves it's absolutely forgiving. Lay of the throttle and shifting seems as natural as it does in any other factory model, smooth and precise.

So the Sportec SP370 seems to provide everything one wants from a Porsche. What more could one wish for - well it seems like there's a 3.8L Cayman in the works. Check back shortly, I have a feeling I'll be driving one soon!
