The 599 is a 620bhp front-engined V12 sports car that will replace the ageing 575, and the name comes from the 5999cc capacity of the engine.

While Ferrari has been wowing the crowds in Detroit with its display of FXX, F430 and 612 cars, it turns out this is all smoke and mirrors.

The real star of Ferrari's year is the 599 GTB and it's not even at the Detroit show.

The 599 is a 620bhp front-engined V12 sports car that will replace the ageing 575, and the name comes from the 5999cc capacity of the engine.

This engine makes the 599 the most powerful V12 road car Ferrari has ever sold to the public.

Styled by Pininfarina, the 599 will make its first public appearance at the Geneva motor show in March before going on sale later this year with a rumoured price tag of £170,000.
