The technology used in air purifiers can either be effective at obtaining and absorbing particles or ineffective. Some technologies used in a product simply mask contaminated air instead of cleaning it. There are certain types technologies that are ineffective. One of these types of technologies is a negative ion air purifier. These types of technologies used to clean the indoors claim to have the same amount of efficiency as other filters and mediums used. However, this type of air purifier does not prove as effective and useful as other technologies. HEPA filters and electronic technology when used in air purifiers are proven to be more efficient and effective than negative ion air purifiers.

Negative Ion purifiers are a type of purifier that uses chemical injection technology to clean the air. A negative ion is a molecule that has an extra electron charged with it. The extra electron is inserted and using a high voltage needle charges the molecule. The extra electron is then given up when there is another element that it touches. When the extra electron attaches to this new element, the new element is given a charge. This charge that the particle is given allows it to stick to the next available solid item it touches. This solid item can be anything from a wall to a window or clothing. The dust or pollen particles that the negative ions are able to reach are taken out of the air. However, these particles are then stuck to the wall or items in the room that the air purifier is cleaning. The particles could easily become loose and circulate the air again. The particles that the negative ion attract and charge are not cleanly taken out of the air or absorbed into the air purifier.

Air purifiers that use negative ion technology are not proven to be as effective as other air purifiers. Air purifiers that use HEPA technology or electronic technology have higher measurements of clean air and effectiveness. With the use of a negative ion air purifier, the environment or room that is trying to be cleaned will never achieve the goal of cleanliness. The harmful particles and contaminants that are found in dirty air are simply stuck to surrounding walls and items in the room when a negative ion air purifier is used. With other types of technologies in air purifiers, the machines are able to absorb and dispose of these dangerous fumes and particles. The particles are eliminated from the environment instead of being transferred to surrounding solid items and walls.

Certain industries have been known to use Negative Ion purifiers. Farmers use these air purifiers in large chicken coops to stop the dust from rising. The United States uses negative ion air purifiers in their submarines. Although these industries may find the negative ion air purifiers useful, they are not as powerful or as effective as other air purifiers on the market today. Although the negative ion air purifier may seem to have advanced technology and may seem to be effective, they are proven to not clean the air as well as an air purifier that uses a different type of technology or filter. There are many other air purifiers on the market that use different filters and ways to absorb particles. With the adsorption of the particles, they are no longer circulating in the air and the air has been fully cleaned. The air circulating from these air purifiers is completely clean and free of contaminants.

Air purifiers using Negative technology do not work the same way. The air that circulates through these air purifiers still contains contaminants. Although the particles have been charged and are stuck to surrounding walls, the air that has run through the air purifier is still not considered clean. The dust and dirt that was found in the air by the negative ions has simply been moved to the walls and surrounding solid items in the room instead of being completely eliminated.

When the particles, dust and pollen are charged and then stuck to the walls or items in the room, they still have the ability to come loose from these items. If the particles and chemicals that have been “cleaned” by the negative ion air purifier come loose from the surrounding walls, they are able to circulate through the air in the room once again. Therefore, the negative ion purifier has not officially cleaned and eliminated these particles from the indoor air. There is still the chance that they will come loose and contaminate the air again.

Although negative ion technology may seem to be cutting edge and may seem effective since it is used in a few different industries, this type of air purifier is still not proven as effective as other air purifiers on the market. Air purifiers that contain HEPA technology or electronic technology are proven to eliminate and catch more particles in the air than negative ion purifiers.
